Marja cares, that’s why we love to have her by our side. She’s clever, resourceful and extremely patient. We trust her with all the tasks that need to be done in order to successfully arrange our Friday get-togethers and other activities. She makes sure everything runs smoothly at the Open kitchen, from managing our team of students on the field to making sure we have enough glasses and duct tape. She also willingly takes care of a significant part of the bureaucracy, for which we are especially grateful.
We are amazed by how gracefully she handles even the toughest phone conversations, but the best part of working with Marja is her storytelling. She manages to turn all her daily mishaps from bike accidents to midnight tree climbing sessions saving her cat Moma, into intriguing adventures that the whole team laughs about.
We love Marja since we know we can always count on her. We are a bit sceptical about her love for kale and cauliflower (no one likes them that much, right?!), but being the only vegetarian in our team we trust her with her choices (for our side dishes).

What’s your favourite dish at the Open kitchen?
It mostly depends on the mood and the temperature, but it often happens that my lunch chooses me when I pass the stand and my nose decides that this is it.
What did you want to be when you grow up?
Zoologist. My family moved to the countryside when I was little so my brother and I spent a lot of time in the woods, rescuing the animals and taking them to the vet. In high school, I chose a different path but I still care deeply about nature and all living things.
How come the team doesn’t seem to gain weight?
Who knows. It’s harder during the week when we usually discuss our lunch plans before we even finish our breakfast, but Fridays get so busy, we usually don’t have time to eat before the afternoon. Not to mention the millions of steps we make at Pogačarjev trg.
What does the team tease you about?
Where to begin … First I was demoted from my position as an office DJ - they say I was disturbing the work process with my choices of songs. Also, no one wants to sit opposite from me at lunch since I once accidentally catapulted some curry into Lior’s lap while enthusiastically explaining a story.
What do you enjoy most about the Open kitchen team?
We are honest and we take care of each other. I like that we give credit when credit is due. I like how we stick together, even when it gets rough. How we are always looking for new challenges and thinking about all the ways to better ourselves.
What’s your hidden/useless talent?
I’m very good at identifying different dog breeds.
What’s the most stressful part of your job?
At the moment, not having the experience some other team members have. Since I’ve only been a part of the team for one season I sometimes fear the situations that are not that serious. I’m grateful that the team calms me down and helps me find the solutions at these moments.
What do you miss most at the moment?
Hugs, hugs, hugs. Being relaxed and meeting people. Also concerts and the theatre. Hanging out.
Which dish do you prepare most often?
1001 versions of wok veggies in the summer, soups and broths in the winter.
If you could change one thing in the world, what would it be?
I wish that all people would have enough money and opportunities for proper education and be able to buy sustainable products that don’t harm the environment and other living things.
