Merry
With the first snowflakes and the annual awakening of Mariah Carey and the gift-carrying men, our list of the December delights you shouldn’t miss arrives.
What have our dear friends prepared this year?
A dance at Gostilna Mihovec awaits. Not only because Mojca recently celebrated her jubilee – we wish all the very best to her – but because people like to party. A great evening with delicious home dishes and music is planned for December 9.
At Abi Falafel, they have prepared some beautiful gift packages. They are also eager to help you organize a tasty get-together with friends and/or business partners, accompanied by traditional music and dances.
If you are visiting Celje, stop by Stari pisker for some great mulled wine and homemade sausages. They even started their own Mulled wine movement, honouring the tradition and culture of drinking properly prepared wine that won’t cause heartburn and headaches.
All wine lovers are welcome to discover their new favourite wine stories at Dobro vino, which has prepared incredible gift sets and organized speedy delivery. Until Christmas, you can visit their pop-up shop in Šiška for some wine picking and tasting. You can also order and pick up their special Wine Emergency Party Box for those spontaneous December parties. Don’t forget to ask them about their special tasting events as well.
The Jezeršek family has done it again! You can visit the King of šmorn (kaiserschmarrn) at their stand near the Three bridges and try their delights at the Ljubljana Castle Holiday Market. The incredible winter-inspired offer awaits you at Dvor Jezeršek, Bled Castle Restaurant, and Gostilna na Gradu at Ljubljana Castle, where they will also prepare some unforgettable New Year’s Eve celebrations. If you’re planning to be home for Christmas, make sure to check Jezeršek’s culinary gifts offer and order the ingredients for the perfect tartar.
You are also kindly invited for a glass of wine, some snacks or a proper feast at Birdie. Together with the Koželj family, they started a new delicious project at Pogačarjev trg - did you hear about it? You can also still visit them in Trnovo for a taste of their weekly menu or a special pre-holiday get-together. They are organising a holiday brunch on December 24 and a smash burger and champagne party in Brda with the Wine Brothers on December 26.
Making your way to Primorska, you can plan your meal at Gostilna Termika. They are organizing a special Christmas lunch this year as well. And don’t forget to order their chef Erik Batagelj’s December panettone to take home with you!
All meat lovers should call Osi at Super Hrust for the best and crispiest roasted piglet, perfect for end-of-year parties with friends.
Strolling through the city centre, the Istrska hiša at Kongresni trg will make sure you don’t leave hungry or thirsty. Did you know that with the Istrska hiša, the stories of Altrokè and Vino & Ribe started?
For some special mulled wine with figs and cardamom, you should visit the Indijska restavracija Namasté. Opt for some delicious romali roti while you’re there to remind yourself of our happy get-togethers at Pogačarjev trg.
The cheerful good men helpers from Vinoteka J&B informed us of their lovely gift package selection and wine tastings that they organize for smaller groups in Ljubljana. Let’s meet there!
And for something sweet
Stop by Moji Štruklji Slovenije at the weekends when they put out their stand filled with homemade delights on Pogačarjev trg, or order their delicious packages for the perfect gift.
At Atelier Karim, you will find an assortment of holiday delights, such as basque cheesecake, holiday wreaths and cakes, brownies and cookies and, of course, their famous macaroons with personalized packaging.
Maja from the Pie Shop extended her invitation to all of us for some pie tasting and reminded us of her delivery options. If Novo mesto seems too far, you can visit her and her pies at Nama Tuš Gourmet & Delikatesa in Ljubljana.
All the sweet tooth out there will be delighted by the news of the La Mousse Goose new holiday catalogue, filled with delicious mini sweets and cakes. Make sure to stop by their lovely boutique at Stari trg also.
It seems we’re in for another delicious December! If you’re missing your favourite vendor from the Open kitchen on this list, feel free to contact them and ask for a holiday update.
Here’s to a wonderful and delicious season of merrymaking!
