Life on Earth is inseparably connected to the concept of sustainability - meeting our own needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own. Of course, we don’t have a plan/planet B to rely on! But are we really doing everything we can to better our lives on this planet? Let’s listen to the wise words of our forebearers so that we don’t waste our children’s futures. Let’s do everything in our power not to waste their access to healthy food, clean water, pleasant (and not scorching) sunshine, the cooling shade of the trees …

Everybody can join in the efforts. At the Open kitchen, we do our best and have tried to make our get-togethers as sustainable as possible for the past few years, upgrading the concept continuously. So, what have we managed to achieve so far?

Bio is the word!

The food and drinks at the Open kitchen are served exclusively in biodegradable or reusable materials. Our dear vendors are getting more and more creative with using paper, starch, cellulose, cardboard, wood and glass to cater to all your needs - some go as far as serving dessert in a coconut shell! Even the cutlery and cups that look like plastic, can be disposed of safely into the biodegradable waste bins, as they are made from a renewable source (PLA - polylactic acid), that the waste collection centres process without any trouble. 

Reduce, reuse & recycle!

To make our gatherings even more pleasant and our futures brighter, we aim to reduce waste and separate what we do produce diligently. If you have any doubts, the kind Voka Snaga team members will be happy to assist you next to every waste-separating station at any time.

This year, we got some help in the “reuse & recycle” category - the great team from Tricikel upcycled our old tarp signs into lovely pillows to make our bums warmer and comfier while chatting endlessly over a nice meal or a refreshing drink.

The only way we’ll protect the environment is by taking responsibility for our actions and striving to be better and do better every day, as a community. At the Open kitchen, food is treated with respect and all the excess food is packed and distributed to those in need by the volunteers of Slovenska filantropija.

We promise to lead by example and keep on demonstrating that even the most deeply rooted habits can be changed over time and have fun doing it - the sustainable and eco-way! And you promise us, you’ll bring something to the table as well (quite literally as well, we’ll be happy to serve you in your own to-go containers), keep separating your waste with care (thanks you!) and visit the Open kitchen on foot or by bike more often (bonus: you won't have to count those drinks when we finally meet again)
