The first day of fall is here; the days are shorter, the morning air is a bit cooler, and the first colors we love so much about fall are beginning to appear on the trees.

Odprta kuhna is also slowly entering the final stretch of the season. But don’t worry—until the end of October, be sure to set aside a few more Saturdays for events across Slovenia and Fridays when, instead of a blanket and the couch, we can choose Pogačarjev trg.

Fall also brings its own special flavors - the kind that warm us up a little more and fill us with nostalgia, because our moms, grandmothers, and aunts used to cook them…

So, what are our fall favorites? The goulash from Gostilnica Orle is the real deal - it’s won over everyone who’s tried it yet. It’s also worth stopping by Taverna Tatjana; maybe they’ll be serving their signature brodet again. Ljubao serves gnocchi that warm the stomach, and Tončič’s žlikrofi need no introduction anyway. Or perhaps something a little more exotic, like a warm Filipino soup at the Okusi Filipinov stand, or Skuhna with its African dishes, which are perfect for this time of year. Or maybe a slice of exceptional prosciutto, sliced fresh at Vinoteka Brda? For dessert, try a pie at the Pie Shop - after all, what could be better in a pie than fall fruits? Or perhaps some štruklji, which you’ll of course find at the Moji štruklji stand, where the flavors range from traditional to truly unique.

And that’s exactly what we love about fall. The beautiful colors, the flavors that warm you up, a glass of wine in hand, and the city squares that are still bustling despite the shorter days.

We’ll be cooking, baking, pouring drinks, and socializing through the end of October. So there’s still plenty of time to enjoy your favorite flavors—and maybe discover a new one.
